Discover Financial Services sought to modernize offerings by introducing financial wellness tools that could engage customers more effectively. The primary challenge was to address customer pain points—such as managing budgets, tracking expenses, and achieving savings goals—through intuitive and personalized solutions.
Key Insights:
Over 60% of Discover customers expressed interest in tools for cash flow management, budgeting, and savings goals. Most users relied on bank-provided or self-made tools but lacked advanced, personalized financial guidance.
Our team was tasked to design an onboarding experience and product interface for a new insight and budgeting tool leveraging a 3rd party partner called Personetics' and their white-label products to help empower users to take control of their financial health.
Discover wanted the tool to be easily accessible from their Account Center Home while also providing an intuitive, customizable dashboard. This dashboard needed to display real-time insights, track spending trends, and highlight actionable recommendations like identifying duplicate subscriptions or setting budgets.
Initially, the only way users could opt into the financial wellness service was via a tile placement on the Account Center Home of the app, which lacked context and did not effectively communicate the service’s benefits.
Recognizing the Gaps
I identified that users needed a stronger value proposition and clearer messaging to engage with the service. The landing page became a critical touchpoint, significantly improving user understanding and opt-in rates by offering a more comprehensive and persuasive introduction to the service.
Through in-person workshops and direct collaboration with stakeholders, we designed tailored solutions that deliver daily-updated insights based on users' spending and saving behaviors.
